Message from the Professor
I have been Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery since December 1, 2014. I will make efforts to further develop the traditional Department of Neurosurgery of Kanazawa University so that we can contribute to the medical care in Hokuriku. In addition, we will publish the results of basic and clinical researches to establish new diagnoses and treatments from Kanazawa. We look forward to working with you in the future.
The Department of Neurosurgery, Kanazawa University School of Medicine was established in June 1964, followed by the establishment of the Department of Neurosurgery from the First Department of Surgery, Kanazawa University School of Medicine in 1966, under the leadership of Professor Shinjiro Yamamoto, the first professor of the department. It is one of the oldest departments of neurosurgery in Japan. Prof. Shinjiro Yamamoto retired in 1988 and was succeeded by Prof. Junhiro Yamashita, who became Prof. Junichiro Hamada in 2005. The chair was renamed in 2001 as the Department of Brain Medicine, Division of Brain Medicine, Kanazawa University Graduate School of Medicine, and was renamed in 2008 as the Department of Functional Brain and Spinal Cord Regulation, Kanazawa University School of Medical and Health Sciences.
Since the establishment of our department, we have been conducting research on electrophysiology and its clinical application in epilepsy surgery, and since then, we have been investigating brain edema and malignant brain tumors. At present, we have been conducting basic and clinical research on malignant brain tumors and stroke. We believe that fusion with other fields will bring a new breeze to the field of medicine, and we are currently collaborating with about 30 laboratories in our department.
The motto of our department is “Let’s work together to create a job that will still shine 100 years from now”. The motto of our department is “Let’s cherish the relationships we have with each other and work together to do a brilliant job 100 years from now”. Our goal is to make Hokuriku the most advanced region in neurosurgery and the world’s best medical region for neurosurgical diseases. We will do our best for the treatment of patients with neurosurgical diseases as a team and will make a sincere effort for the medical care of tomorrow. We look forward to receiving your warm support.
